21,035. Clegg, A. Sept. 16. Piston packing. -The outward expansion due to wear of a packing - ring for a pump bucket &c. is limited, in order to avoid jamming of the bucket by the ring when worn thin. For this purpose, the ring 1 is formed with flanges 1<x>, 1<y>, which are received by recesses 2<x>, 3<y>, in the junk ring and body, the radial expansion permitted being less than the thickness of the ring 1.
