Filters, cleansing.-The rotary horizontal washarms d, described in the parent Specification, are fitted at or near the ends with scrapers or rakes d', which are hinged and forced against the sides of the shell a by means of springs d', so that the inner sides of the shell are rubbed or scraped. The scrapers may be provided with rollers d' and may be either solid or hollow so that they may be used to direct jets of water against the shell. Similar scrapers may be fitted to the top of the upper washarms for the purpose of scraping the roof of the shell.
