Abstract

Rotary strainers; travelling-band strainers.- Perforated blades are mounted on a perforated casing, and the two move together in a direction opposite to that of the current of the liquid to be strained. In apparatus as shown in Fig. 1, blades d are drawn into and out of a rotating drum b by rollers adapted to move in cam-grooves e arranged outside the ends of the drum. Solid matter scraped from the blades as they move inwards is removed from the drum by a scraper f, Devices x, y are provided for dislodging the matter by air or steam blasts. The blades may be made hollow and cleaned by an air current which is passed radially through them. In a modification of this form, the blades d are slightly curved and are attached to links inside the drum. Fig. 3 shows apparatus in which the casing is formed by sieves b<1> connected together to form a continuous band.
