FULL SCREEN CLEANER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 6, EH8,
Patented Aug. 13, 191&
2 $HEETSSHEET 2 D 0 o o n n D b v 0 0 0 0 A and I do hereby declare that the following is UNITED sT 'rnsrAT N orn o ADAM PELLERIN, or s'r. FLORE, QUEBEC, CANADA.
BULL-SCREEN CLEA ER.
subject of the King of Great Britain, re-
siding at St. Flore, Province of Quebec,
Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bull-Screen Cleaners;
a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in v the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
The present invention relates to bull screens used for screening wood pulp in the manufacture of paper, and-an object of the 1 present invention isto provide a cleaner for such devices whereby thescreen willbe autoinatically and thoroughly cleaned while the.
wood pulp is being screened.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the,
novel features of construction, combination .and formation of parts as willbe hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been vshown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but
1 thelright is hereby reservedv to any changes,
alterations or modifications to which recourse may. bie-had that come within the V scope of the claims withoutdeparting from efliciency of the same. I 1 r I In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is ayertical section through .a bull screen having an embodiment of the present invention applied thereto;
thespirit of theinvention or sacrificing the the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3
controlling valve; 1
' Fig. 4 is a similar view showing one of Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the partitions removed; and,
Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the valve.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding'parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views. v
The numeral 1 indicates an ordinary bull screen having a plurality of perforations 2 arranged in the bottom thereof which is of is a side elevation of'the water Specification of Letters ratent. P t nted Aug.13, 1918 Application filed May 6, 1918. Serial No. 232,723. i
the ordinary construction. Mountedabove I be rotated in the direction of the arrow as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Keyed to this shaft 3 are a pair of spaced hubs 5 and each of these hubs have two arms 6 "formed therewith and the arms carried by each hub extend diametrically opposite but at right angles to the arms carried by the adjacent hub. Pivotally mounted as at 7 within the outer ends of these arms 6 are the levers 8 and theselevers each carry a wiper, 9. The opposite ends of the levers are connected to the arms 6 by means of the coil springs 10. While the shaft 3 is rotatingthe wipers 9 will be carried therewith and these wipers will pass over the inner face of the screen 1, thereby clearing the wood pulp from the perforations 2. After these wipers have passed over the perforations 2 it is then desired to cleanse the openings or remove the wood pulp contained therein by means of a suitable cleansing liquid such as water, and the wipers after passing over the screen should also be cleansed so as to remove any wood pulp or cellulose adhered thereto. To supply this cleansing liquid to the screen and the wipers automatically and at the time desired, I provide the Sprayers which are connected to a valve whereby the Water or any other suitable cleansing'materialwill be supplied tothe Sprayers at the desired time.
Supported'fwithin the screen'l is a transverse bar or support 11 and mounted upon this bar 11 is a valve. This valv'e comprises a casing whichconsists of a lower stationary section 12 which is secured to the bar 11 by means of the bolts13 and anupper or 'removable section 14 which is connected to .the section 12'by means of'the bolts or other suitable fastening members 15 These sections 12 and 13 have correspondingly inwardly projecting flanges 16 forming a compartment 17 therebetween and a suitable supply pipe 18 is in communication with this compartment or channel way 17 Keyed to the shaft 3 is a hub having formed there.
ssi
formed within the flanges 19 so as to prevent the water from leaking from the valve. The flanges 16"formed with the section 12- have formed therein the elongatedslots 21 and 22 and the rotatable flanges 19 have formed therein the openings '23 and 24 which are adapted to register with the rewith flexible portion 27,- so that'the sprayers 26 may pass freely over the inner face of thescreen 1. Communicating w th each ot the openings 2&"is a pipe 28' and each of "these pipes have formed with their outer-- ends a transversely extending perforated pipe or-sprayer 29. Thesesprayers 29 are I arranged in front of the wipers 9 so as to cleanthe wipers after they haveleft the I woodpulp contained within the screen.
- The operation of the device is as follows:
As the shaft is rotated the arnisgti will be carried-"therewith and the respective wipers '9 contact with the inner face of the screen they will clean or remove the Wood pulp from the openings 2. As ea'chopening registers with the slot 21 water will be supplied to the pipes 29 and in turn the sprayers 26 will be set for a spray of water which will clean the openings 2 after the wipers 9 have passed over these openings.
The slots2l are so arranged that the openings 23 will only communicate therewith when the sprayers 26 are passing over the inner face of the screen 1, but as the Wipers leave the screen the water will be cut off from the sprayers 26 until it again passes 4 shown at the right hand side 'ofFig, 1, it
within the screen. Then one of the wipers aims assumed the position of the wiper as will be free of the wood pulp but afportion of the wood pulp or cellulose will adhere to the wipers as they pass'through the wood pulp, and as the wipers assume this position the pipes 28 will be brought in communication With the slots 22 wherein the water will be permittedto travel to the sprayers 29 and these sprayers will then exert a spray of water upon the Wipers wherebythey will an e be free of wood pulp before leaving the screen.
Having thus fully described my lnventlon,
what Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a bull screen cleaner the combination of a screen, a driving shaft mounted abovesaid-screen, wipers carried by said shaft and adapted to contact with said screen, and sprayers arranged in.front and in theback of each of saidaviperssubstantially-as and for thepurpose specified.
- 2. The-combination Witha bull screen, of
a rotatable shaft mounted thereupon, wipers c'a'rriedbysaid shaft and adapted to contact with said screen, a supply'pipe, 'a valve arranged {within said supply pipe, sprayers carried by saidsha'ft and in 'comiminication withsaid supply pipe, and said: shaft adapted to operate said valve substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The-combination with a bull screen having-a plurality of -perforations therein, of a driven shaft mounted above said screen, a plurality of arms carried by said shaft, a wiper carried by each; of said arms and adapted to contact with said-screen, sprayers carried bysaid shaftand arranged adjacent to said wipers, a supply pipe comn'nnncatmg with said'sprayeraa Valve arranged'within said supply pipe, and said shaft being 'operatively connected to said valve.
1. Tl'iecombination with a bull screen, of adriven shaft mounted above said bull screen, a plurality of arms'carried by said shaft, afiexible wiper carried by the outer end of each of said arms, said wipers adapted to contact with saidscreen, sprayers car- "ried by said shaft and adapted to rest adjacent said'wipers, a supply pipe, a rotatable valve arranged within said supply pipe, means for operatively connecting said valve with said shaft, said sprayers beings in communication with "said" supply pipe and means whereby upon the rotation of said shaft said valve will be opened and closed for supplying water tosaid sprayers substantially as and for the purpose set forth. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
