Abstract

17,567. Shepherd, S. H. July 29. Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler of the kind comprising sets of straight horizontal tubes connected by bends and opening into a central steam and water chamber, as described in Specification 11,248/10, independent superposed sets of horizontal or slightly-inclined tubes open into the central chamber through bends provided with means, such as cocks, whereby a defective set may be readily put out of use. In the boiler shown, four series of superposed sets are arranged at right-angles to each other around a central drum d. Each set consists of two superposed groups of tubes a, a', a<2>, and b, b<1>, b<2> connected by a vertical bend c. The inlet and outlet tubes a<4>, b<4> of each set are arranged one above the other so that they support the central parts of the sets that cross them. The bends a<5>, b<5> connected to the inlet and outlet tubes are provided with cocks e and with screwed unions f, g. The other tube-bends may be provided with screw-unions at both ends instead of only at one end as shown.
