Abstract

10,233. Yarrow, A. F. April 26. Baffles; dampers.-A water-tube boiler in which the paths for the furnace gases in their passage to the uptake of various lengths, for example in the Yarrow boiler, is provided with baffles so formed and arranged that the resistances offered to the flow of the gases are equal along all the paths. The baffles are placed on the uptake side of the water-tubes, and are preferably removable. The baffles may consist of angle-iron bars 6, Figs. 1 and 1<a>, which rest upon the bank of tubes 4. The bars may be slightly raised from the tubes at their lower ends. Tapering plates 6, Fig. 3, secured to a fixed baffle-plate 8 at the top of the tubes may be employed. Fig. 4 shows tapering baffleplates 6 placed across the tubes and spaced at distances decreasing towards the top of the tubes. The pivoted baffles 6 shown in Fig. 5 may be operated independently, or two or more may be operated simultaneously. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 18,593/94, 9517/95, and 5213/96.
