Abstract
15,009. Hartley, C. June 27. Pontoon rafts.-Rafts are constructed of two watertight shells C surmounted by a deck A and having grooves on their undersides as shown. The deck A when the raft is housed on the ship constitutes part of the ship's deck and is within reach of the ship's derricks or a special davit fitted with boat tackle. The upper part of the raft A is flush with the fixed portion of the deck. Between the shells C is secured a bearer B, which rests on bars under the ship's deck. The shells C are secured by rods E fitted with cotter pins, and are subdivided by plates D. A rudder is fitted at one end of the bar B and a mast is stepped in its centre. The outer portions of the deck A may be turned up as shown.
