Abstract

Flat-bottomed boats; rafts.-In addition to the ordinary ships' boats, flat-bottomed boats or rafts, Figs. 13 and 15, are provided and secured to the deck in any convenient manner, or a flat-bottomed boat J may rest on the top of a raft K. The boat J, or the raft, is permanently covered at the ends J<1>, J<2>, so that when entering the water it will not be submerged beyond the covered portion. The well of the boat is provided with covers or batches J<3>, J<4>, which may be turned up to increase the freeboard of the boat, and with a socket J<11> for the reception of a mast. The rafts K are divided into sections by beams, and may either rest on the deck or the bottom of the rafts may form part of the deck itself.
