Abstract
12,736. Goerlich, R. Sept. 11, 1911, [Convention date]. Locking - apparatus. - For preventing unauthorized use of cycles &c., a catch or brake mechanism is connected with the saddle in such a manner that, on the saddle being tilted up into an inclined position, the mechanism locks the rear wheel of the machine. The saddle is mounted upon a pivoted pin c, which is normally held in an horizontal position by a spring-pressed pawl f. At its rear end, the pin is formed with a hook g connected by an adjustable rod k, l to a brake block n, so that when the saddle is tilted up, the block bears upon the tyre o, and the hook enters a recess h to be locked by a latch i. To disengage the latch, a key is inserted into a lock e, and the saddle may then be restored to normal position. For preventing unauthorized slackening of the brake-rod, the adjusting-nut s and the screw r connecting the rod to the hook g are enclosed in a tube t which is held raised by means such as eyes, lugs, or the like, and when the saddle has been tilted, a pin-like projection u upon the tube enters a recess v in the saddle pillar to secure the tube against downward movement. The rod may be guided, as by the mud-guard or by a piece carried by the cross-member of the fork and stayed to the fork limbs. Instead of braking the road wheel, the apparatus may be arranged to lock the chain-wheel or its axle.
