Abstract
10,062. Robertson, D. D., and Wollenweber, M. April 27. Explosives.-Consists in coating nitrocellulosenitroglycerine explosives with a metallic oxalate or tartrate. The explosive, say, in the form of grains (containing 5 to 35 per cent of nitroglycerine, 65 to 95 per cent of nitrocellulose, and 0À1 to 1 per cent of diphenylamine) is first waterproofed with a camphor solution, and is then coated with a solution of 20 parts of potassium tartrate in 80 parts of water. The grains are separated in a centrifugal machine, dried, and polished with graphite. The quantities of camphor, tartrate, and graphite that may remain in the explosive are 2, 0À2 to 2, and 0À2 to 1 per cent respectively.
