Field-tube superheaters; fire-tubes, arrangements of superheating-tubes in.-The outer tubes of a Field-tube superheater are covered with rings of cast-iron, steel, or other material. The rings may be formed with longitudinal or helical ribs. The Field-tubes A placed in the flue-tubes of a locomotive boiler are covered by ribbed rings H at their front ends and by plain rings at their back ends. The ribbed rings may be of sufficient depth to support the tubes within the flue-tubes, or supporting-rings b may be provided. The tubes open into vertical headers C. Chambers F in the headers communicate with the boiler steam space and are formed with apertures, through which jets of steam are blown into the fire-tubes around the superheating-tubes to keep these clean and free from soot.
