Motor power plant.-In marine engines having horizontal or inclined cylinders with common combustion chambers and oppositely-moving pistons connected to separate crank-shafts, the crank-shafts are geared together either by screwwheels and a solid cross-shaft, or, as shown in Fig. 3, by spur-wheels, two of which are mounted upon intermediate shafts 15, 16. The crank-shafts and the two intermediate shafts may each drive a propeller. According to the Provisional Specification, a single intermediate shaft or bevel gearing may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 17,976/00, [Class 7, Air and gas engines], and 26,549/09, and 24,401/10, [both in Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, arrangement &c. of].
