8723. Johnson, W. C. April 12. Tread bands; tyre attachments to rims.- Relates to renewable treads which are secured by straps embracing the tread and felloe of the wheel. The tread band is separately moulded and vulcanized and has a thickened wearing portion strengthened by canvas h<1> or string. Helical grooves h<2> are cut in the tread to receive the securing-straps k. Two oppositelywound straps are shown. In the case of a pneumatic tyre the straps are placed in position while the tyre is only partly inflated. Any stretching of the straps may be taken up by right and left handed screw adjusters, or by means of a movable ring o having wedges o<1> under the straps.
