Connecting uppers to insoles; insoles. - An insole is formed of a sole-leather piece 1, split along the edges of the toe and the shank, and a felt part 4 adapted to fit within the turneddown lower lip of the piece 1. The felt and the leather are co-extensive round the heel, the lower part of the felt being skived to take the upper. The upper is attached round the fore part by stitches passing through the welt 9, the upper 8, the lip, and the felt 7. An incision 6 is made in the lower side of the felt to take the stitches. The nails used in attaching the heel portion of the upper are driven through the felt portion only, the leather part of the insole being turned back afterwards to cover the heads of the nails. In a modification, the felt is co-extensive with the leather around the fore part, but is skived to allow turning down.
