Connecting uppers to insoles and soles.-A thin leather sole 2, with a layer 3 of waterproof canvas on its upper face, is stitched to a layer of cork 1. The cork covers the forepart and waist of the sole, but is replaced by a piece of leather at the heel. The leather sole 2 is flanged around the forepart and waist, and a fabric binding-strip 8 is cemented over the edge of the cork. This binding is also sewn at one of its edges to the cork, and the boot upper 5, welt 6, and binding 8 are sewn to the flange 4 of the leather sole 2. The arrangement of the binding-strip 8 prevents the cork from curling.
