Lateral-splash guards for motor and other road vehicles comprise a brush 1 suspended from the axle journal by means of a portion 4 of an articulated member rotatably mounted on the spindle 3 of a nut 2 screwed upon the end of the journal, and supporting, by means of a pivoted link 5, the brush carrier 9. Springs 6 tend to return the brush into the normal position after displacement by an obstacle. In a modification, applicable to the driving-wheels, the upper portion of the articulated member is mounted on the axle-cap by means of a ball bearing, and a telescopic spring device is also provided to assist in maintaining the guard in its normal position. When an auxiliary wheel is used, an extension member 7, Fig. 5, may be mounted on the journal or on the axle cap, the extension carrying the guard..
