Abstract

4761. Chetwynd, L. W. P. Feb. 26. Mariners' compasses.-Relates to compasses having course-indicators and provided with means, external to the bowl, for holding the card against rotation and rotating the indicator. The pivot g of the float chamber is yieldingly mounted in the socket h, and the lower side of the float chamber is provided with detents j adapted to engage notches k<1> in the edge cf the fixed disk k. The course-indicator d is carried by a ring m so as normally to rotate with the card b, the ring m being formed with notches adapted to be engaged by the arms n<1> when the plunger n is pushed down, while at the same time the detents enter the slots k<1> so that the indicator can be rotated while the card is held stationary. The indicator may be fitted with luminous tubes e, the lubber's point or points f being preferably luminous also.
