3970. Montgomery, M. Feb. 16. Gill boxes and frames.-The feeding-arrangement of a spreader or of a drawing and roving frame comprises a flat table or the equivalent, over which the fibrous material is fed, pressure rollers acting on the material as it passes over the table, and a reciprocating beater working adjacent to the front edge of the table to ensure the engagement of the fibres with the teeth of the gill bars. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a drawing-frame. The slivers b pass over a plate a to the gill bars c. Two or more rollers f, g rest on the slivers as they pass over the plate, and a roller j, carried by a bar h, which is reciprocated in vertical slides by cams on the upper screw shafts, acts as a beater, moving downwards as the gill bars move upwards into the fibres.
