Exhaust, dealing with; exhaust-silencers. - In a water - cooled silencer for marine engines, the cooling-water from the cylinder jackets enters the silencer by the pipe C and leaves through the above-water dischargepipe K. The exhaust enters by the pipe B and passes by one cr more baffles D to the outlet F. When the engine stops, the discharge-pipe K allows air to enter the silencer and prevents water from entering the cylinders. Cylinders, cooling.-Noise caused by exhaust gases passing out by the pipe K indicates the failure of the supply of cooling-water for the cylinder jackets.
