Abstract
28,060. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. Dec. 13. Ordnance breech mechanism. - Relates to recocking-gear, and consists in a device which is carried by the cradle, and is constructed so that it will actuate the recocking arm on the gun although the gun may not be fully run-out. The construction is also such that, should the actuating part of the device not return fully to its normal position after a recocking operation, it will be returned thereto by the recocking- arm on the gear during the ensuing run-out. Fig. 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 a plan of the device, which is adapted to actuate the recocking-arm A' on the gun A by means of a nose C<2> on a handled sleeve C<1>, the nose being of substantial length to engage the arm A<1> although the gun may not fully-run-out. The sleeve is rotatably mounted on a fixed cylinder B<1>, which cylinder may be the casing- for a part of the firing-mechanism described in Specification 16,216/11. A ring D is slidably mounted in the sleeve C' to which it is keyed by keys d<1>, and is pressed forward by a spring C<Î> causing a cam-edge d on the ring D to engage a similar part b on the cylinder B<1>. When the sleeve is rotated to recock the striker, the cam-surfaces force back the ring D and compress the spring C<Î>. This spring afterwards returns the device to the normal position; but, should the spring fail, the parts are returned when the gun runs out, by the arm A<1> engaging the toe C<2> and driving the sleeve C' forward until it catches up the ring D and forces the cam-surfaces b, d into re-engagement.
