Abstract

Gas meters.-A tank for measuring gases is divided into a considerable number of compartments of different sizes, as that by choosing the appropriate compartments the apparatus can be made to measure out gases or liquids. A convenient division is into compartments #, , ¢, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, and 46# per cent of the whole tank. The tank is inverted and used as a gasometer bell. The tank a is divided 'as shown in Fig. 2. The gas main b communicates with the compartments through branches b' fitted with cocks b<2>. Branches b<3> allow the admission of the gases. The main c communicates with the pipes b' below the cocks b<2> and also with the compartment a<1> by pipes c<1> provided with cocks c<2>. The pipes c<1> also communicate with pipes c<4>, which are transparent and serve to indicate the level of water in the various compartments. In another form, the compartments are for the most part, arranged concentrically in a cylindrical tank. Gauge pipes are provided to prevent overfilling of the compartments.
