[Addition to 16,487/10.] Brake mechanism.-In brake mechanism for cycles &c. as described in the parent Specification, in which a concealed rolling lever e is furnished with an operating-part a of such form or dimensions as to permit of its being passed through the tube of the handle-bar, a direct engagement is arranged between the operating- part and a sliding member b which has a projecting arm b<2> adapted to be jointed to the upper extremity of the vertical brake stem g. The sliding member has a forward lug or projection b<1> to engage a recess or peripheral depression a' in the operating part a, and when this part is of circular or equivalent form, it may be of such diameter as to constitute a bearing-washer for the lever. As shown in Fig. 3, the sliding member is in the form of a strip of plate metal, and is guided by a plug c secured within the upper part of the handle-bar stem. For convenience in assembling the parts, an aperture, closed by a cap, may be provided at the upper extremity of the stem.
