Picking straps and connexions. - A picking-stick 10, Fig. 1, is connected to its operating-arm 11 by a sweepstick 12, a screwthreaded rod 15 having a spherical head 18 which fits in a socket on a plate 20, and links 28 connecting the plate 20 with plates 29. The rod 15 is adjustably connected to the sweepstick by a nut 16, the sweep-stick is provided with a metal end-cap 14, and the plates 20, 29 are caused to grip the stick 10 by adjusting a screw 31 passing through nuts 30 integral with the plates 29. In another form, plates 43, Fig. 3, secured to the sweep-stick carry a spherical head 46 located in a socket between a boss 47 on a plate 48 and a cap 49. A screw 50 passes through a plate 51 connected to a plate 53 by links 52, and engages the cap 49 to hold it in position. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the sweep - stick 21 is formed from metal, being provided with an eye 22 and screwed legs 14, which lie in grooves in a wooden or fibre block 12 and are adjustably secured by flanged metal pieces 16, 17 and nuts 20. The stick 21 is connected to a casting 26, carrying the links 28, by a universal joint consisting of a member 24 pivoted at 25 and carrying a pin 230 which passes through the eye 22.
