Abstract
21,611. Michell, A. G. M. Sept. 30. Multi-stage centrifugal pumps; casings.-The discharge from an impeller 3 mounted on a driven shaft 1 drives a turbine-wheel 5, which is cast in one with or secured to an auxiliary pump impeller 9. The impellers 3, 9 work in series, the turbine 5 and impeller 9 being connected by bars 8 which allow the water &c. to pass. The combined part 5, 9 runs on a stationary spindle 11 lubricated by a passage 30, a thrust bearing 16 being provided. The thrust on the impeller 3 is taken by a balancing- device 25. The electric driving-motor may be mounted on the casing 27.
