Abstract

Blades.-Blades of rotors or stators of centrifugal pumps or fans or of turbines are held in position by means of a lip or flange at right-angles to the acting surface of the blade, which is engaged by a spacing block and held in position by clamping-plates bolted to the casing or the supporting-ring of the rotor. The clamping-plates may be integral with the placing-blocks, as in Fig. 1, which shows a centrifugal fan or pump in which the diffuser blades a with a. lip d are held by spacing-pieces c bolted by countersunk screws to the casing b. Blades g are held by bolts k which pass through extensions h of the blades. which lit groves in the casing. Distance-pieces fili the grooves between the extensions h of the blades g. These construction enable the interior of the casing to be machined to give a smooth interior surface, and also to provide for reguar spacing and easy removal of the blades. Fig. 15 shows a turbine section in which blades 3 with lips at right-angles are held by shaped distancepieces 5 and clamping-rings 12, 13 bolted to the rings 1, 17. The distanlle-pieces are formed to give the proper inclination to the blades.
