Abstract

18,412. Evinrude, O., and Evinrude Motor Co. Aug. 15. Detachable propelling installations; steering by screw propellers.- Comprises an open frame for adjusting the propeller in a vertical plane, and also an extending shaft for adjusting the depth of the propeller whereby the apparatus is suitable for any shaped stern. The casing 5<1> of the driving-engine has hollow lugs 11 into which are screwed the bolts 12 supporting the upper ends of a swing frame 13. This frame is clamped to the stern of a boat by screws 14, the lower end 13<1> being adjustably clamped to a collar 18 which surrounds two telescopic tubes 15, 16, the tube 15 depending from a crank bearing of the engine, and the tube 16 extending upwards from the gear case 17. With this apparatus, the axis of the propeller shaft can take an horizontal position for all inclinations of the stern frame. The tiller 19 rests on a cross-bar 20 in the frame 13 and is integral with a tube 19@ embracing the tube 16. The crank shaft 7 is coupled with a driving-shaft 25 by a keyed sliding coupling. The shaft 25 drives the propeller shaft 26<1> through bevel-gearing, one bevel-wheel of which has a cam-surface 30 driving the piston 29 of a pump supplying the cooling-water for the engine. In order to lower or raise the propeller 26, the bolts 22 of the tiller shank 19' are loosened, and the tube 16 is adjusted and reclamped in the required position.
