Abstract
16,860. Soc. Houdaille et Sabot. March 15, [Convention date]. Composite and helical springs; connexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to auxiliary springs of the kind that are inserted between the ends of the leaf springs and the vehicle body, and consists in providing two springs or sets of springs, one point of engagement of one spring or set being made adjustable with respect to the adjacent end of the other spring or set. Fig. 2 shows in section the usual auxiliary spring 6 employed between the ends of the semi-elliptic spring 3 and the hanger 2 reinforced by the spring 7, one end of which is normally situated at a short distance from its abutment, the other end bearing against a nut 8, which may be adjusted by a ratchetdevice 10 so as to bring the spring 7 into operation to suit an overload. Fig. 7 shows a set of two auxiliary springs bearing against an adjustable stepped nut 8. Fig. 9 shows a notched eccentric 20 for adjusting the additional spring 7 through the medium of a pin 19 on the abutment disk 18. The adjustment may be made from the top instead of the bottom, and if necessary from a distance.
