Abstract

Embroidery machines.-In mechanism for converting a rotary motion of definite amplitude into a rotary motion of varying amplitude for the operation of the work frame of an embroidery-machine, the driving-shaft is divided into two or more parts which are geared together so as to rotate in opposite directions. The shaft is rotated intermittently bv a ratchet gear. Movements of opposite value are obtained by connecting similar gears to the different portions of the shaft. The example shown in Fig. 2 comprises a main shaft divided into two portions 1, 2 and two shafts 12, 13, to which are splined gear-wheels 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26. These wheels can be moved into gear, one at a time, with the wheels 6-8 on the shaft 1 or oppositely rotating wheels 9-11 on the shaft 2. The motion of the shaft 12 is reduced by gearing 36, 27 and is transmitted to the shaft 13 from the wheel 27 by a differential gear, being added to the undiminished motion of the latter shaft.
