Abstract

Signs. - An advertising or signalling apparatus, in which a glass vessel filled with water or other liquid is illuminated from within, is formed of an elongated vessel, illuminated directly or indirectly from its ends. A glass tube 1 is protected by an outer tube 1<a>, slotted or pierced to show the inscriptions produced on the front or back of the tube 1 by etching or a sand-blast. The ends of the tube 1 are encased in receptacles 4, each enclosing a lamp 3, or one enclosing a lamp 3 and the other provided with means for reflecting the light back into the tube 1. A coloured glass screen 6 may be interposed between the lamp 3 and the tube 1. The magnification of the inscriptions on the back of the tube 1 varies according to the refractive index of the liquid employed.
