Steering and balancing; planes, arrangement of.-The main supporting-planes of an aeroplane are mounted on the main frame so that on varying their inclination the planes also move longitudinally of the machine in order to maintain the position of the centre of pressure vertically above the centre of gravity. The movements of the planes are constrained by rods C, D moving in curved or rectilinear guide slots A, B, Fig. 1, in the frame F of the machine. The members carrying the slots may be made adjustable on the frame to regulate their position to the load or motor to be carried. In one form the slots A, B, Fig. 5, are in a member R pivoted at H so as to be adjustable on the frame member P. The longitudinal movement of the planes may be obtained by an arrangement of links, levers, or eccentrics, or the plane may be carried by arms N, Fig. 6, pivoted in one of the holes H in the frame member P.
