7051. Wall, E. A. March 21. Roller mills.-The intermeshing longitudinally-corrugated rolls B, B', Fig. 1, of a mill for crushing ores, are driven at equal speeds by separate belt pulleys C, C<1>, and the shafts b2, b<3> of the rolls are geared together by two pairs of long-toothed controller wheels D, D<1> and D<2>, D3, the teeth of one pair of wheels engaging oppositely to the teeth of the other pair, as shown in Fig. 4, to prevent unequal rotation of the rolls. Both pairs of wheels may be placed at one side of the machine, and the wheels D, D<2> may be fixed or formed on a common hub, or formed as a single wide-toothed wheel. The wheels D<1>, D<3> may be formed as toothed rings which are secured by bolts d<12>, Fig. 8, to opposite sides of a flange d<13> on a hub, and are adjustable by means of set-screws d<17> bearing against lugs d<18> on the flanges d<10>. The adjusting-bolts A' of the movable bearings a' extend through both sets of bearings a, a<1>, and are provided with adjusting-nuts a<3> and springs a'. Circular end plates B<2> on the roll B prevent the material from escaping at the ends of the rolls.
