Abstract

5561. Goldson, M. March 6. Prisms for glazed gratings.- Relates to the construction and arrangement of prismatic lenses for pavement lights, illuminated box signs, &c. The prismatic lenses are formed with a lens 6 consisting of a central convex portion and an outer annular portion 10, and a prism having a convexly curved face 8 and a reflecting face 5, the lens portion being formed with a screwthread 7 for insertion into screwed holes in the illuminated sign &c. The faces 8 of the prisms are directed towards the sources of light 3 inside the box. The angle of the prism is slightly less than a right-angle, in an example given, the angle of the prism being 86 degrees, and the width of the prism is less than the diameter of the lens portion. The prismatic lenses may be made hollow in one piece and filled with liquid. Fig. 5 shows a modification for use in pavement lights, in which the lens portion is not threaded.
