Abstract
590,357. Lighting fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BEGGS, S. S. April 18, 1945, No. 9755. [Class 75 (ii)] A light fitting comprises one or more prisms having three or more optically operative incident faces, the inclinations of the faces and the refractive index of the material being such that the angle between consecutive emergent pencils formed by light incident upon the faces of one prism is substantially equal to the angle subtended at the light source by the prism or prisms. In Fig. 5, symmetrical prisms with three optically operative faces, 18, 19, 20 are arranged contiguously about a zone of a lamp globe subtending an angle of # at the light source, the rays entering the side faces 18, 19 emerging at an angle of # with the undeviated ray 30 through the face 20. The total spread of light in this case from the whole zone is 3#, the angle between the outermost rays 21, 24, and if the prisms had n optically faces the total spread would be n . The prisms may be asymmetrical, and if this is so, one short face 27, Fig. 7, may be joined to the longer face 28 of the adjacent prism by a radial optically inoperative face 29, and if desired the prisms in one half of the zone may be mirror images of those in the other half.
