Abstract
5181. Dodge, O. W. March 11, 1910, [Convention date]. Rollers or cylinders, hollow. - Means for removing water of condensation from the drying- cylinders of paper-making and other machines comprises an axial drain-pipe 2 into which a series of convolutely bent pipes lead water from a peripheral scoop 3 extending the length of the cylinder. Two scoops with corresponding convolute pipes may be employed. The scoop or scoops may rotate with the cylinder or independently. By using two series of convolute pipes to one scoop, as shown in Fig. 3, bent so that they enter the drain-pipe on opposite sides, the escape of water may be made more continuous. Instead of employing a single scoop extending the whole length of the cylinder, a series of short lengths may be used, ranged in line.
