Abstract

2510. Trewhella, B. H., [Trewhella, W.]. Jan. 31. Coupling.-Relates to plug-and-socket attachments for ropes in which the rope is inserted in a tapering socket and the strands gripped against the sides thereof by a tapering plug with or without grooves. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the rope is inserted in a socket of oval cross - section, two sides 4, 5 being flared and suitably channelled as at 11, and the remaining sides parallel, and is gripped by a correspondingly tapered wedge 6, which may be channelled on its diverging sides. Figs. 5 and 7 show the application of the invention to the connexion of the end of a rope to a T-headed connecting-piece, three pairs of strands being fixed by means of wedges 6 in three sockets in the connecting-piece, and the wedges being preferably channelled as shown at 16.
