28,803. Alquist, K. Dec. 12. Regulating centrifugal fans. In centrifugal compressor systems compressing two or more flows in parallel, the several suction pipes are connected by regulating-mechanism which disturbs an unduly increased flow in any pipe, thus preventing undue rise of pressure in the corresponding part, but leaves the several flows practically undisturbed as long as they maintain their normal relative proportions. Two arrangements are described, in the first of which converging-diverging nozzles c, d, Fig. 1, are provided in the suction pipes a, b, the throats of the nozzles opening on to chambers e, f connected by a pipe g. If the flow increases in one pipe, fluid enters the nozzle throat in that pipe and disturbs the flow, until the pressures are equalized. In the other arrangement, a fan or impeller is placed in each suction pipe and connected so that if one flow increases the impeller in this pipe will be driven at a higher speed, the energy absorbed serving to increase the flow in the other pipe, through the other impeller.
