Roller mills.-Rollers for crushing cane are formed with a number of curved compression faces a, a<1> with steps between them to form a series of shearing or crushing teeth b, b<1>. The spiral curves a, a<1> are preferably formed so that the distance between opposing faces remains constant. The crushing and shearing teeth may be arranged in a plain path, or zigzag as shown in Fig. 2. A pair of the rollers may be used with a smooth roll, or three of the cutting and compressing rollers may be used.
