Abstract
26,540. Cloudsley, J. L. Nov. 15. Fixed - chamber apparatus for pulverulent materials.-A device for charging continuouslyoperated carbonizing-retorts, comprises a pocket o closed by an apertured disk l which is rotated or oscillated so that the opening m is in turn opposite to the outlet h of the hopper a and to the inlet g to the retort, the coal thus falling first into the pocket and then from the pocket into the retort. The pocket may be fixed or may be bolted to the disk l. A gas-tight joint is maintained between the disk l and the fixed casing of the apparatus by a flange n engaging a corresponding groove, and a spring q is provided on the shaft i to form a yielding connexion in the case of jamming.
