Abstract

Roasting.-The separation of volatile metals such as zinc, tin, and antimony, from non- volatile metals and metalliferous substances is effected by charging the moistened ore, mixed, if necessary, with coke, coal, sulphur, sulphides, or other reducing-agent into a closed converter, igniting the mixture at the surface, and forcing air, steam, or other suitable oxidizing - agent downwards through the mass. The volatile metals are driven off and recovered as oxides. Specification 10,351/01 is referred to.
