Packing, metallic; draining. - In packing of the type consisting of segmental rings c contained in rings e, the flanges h of the rings e are provided with projections j, having webs k against which the packing - rings or their joint-pieces f bear. The packing - rings are pressed on to the rod by springs g and by leakage fluid, which also presses t h e packing axially. Springs may be provided between the ends of the segments to reduce the pressure of the rings on the rod. The first and last rings e<1>, e<2> are preferably formed without the projections j. The l a s t packing-ring c is formed with a bevelled edge m for removing leakage from the rod, as described in Specification 4082/10, and has also a groove o and passages p for removing leakage. Soft metal rings q, s are placed at the ends of the box.
