Abstract

18,249. Gaynor, J. Aug. 2. Helical springs; connexions and attachments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Consists in improved telescopic spring spokes in which contraction or extension is resisted by helical springs in compression. Pivoted to the hub and rim at 17, Figs. 2 and 3, on plates 19 secured thereto, are rods 15 which slide in a tube 10, near each end of which is screwed a cross-head 12. Three helical springs are supported by each cross - head. The central spring 22 is placed between a plate 20 resting on the end of the rod and secured to the cross-head by bolts 24, Figs. 3 and 5, movable through the same, and a plate 21 resting on the cross-head and secured by bolts 23 pivoted freely in the plate 19 and movable through the plate 21. Each lateral spring is fitted on a bolt 34 passing freely through the cross - head and screwed to a block which rests against and rocks on the plate 19. One end of the spring rests on the block. The other end rests against a plate 29, through which pass bolts 31, Fig. 4, freely pivoted in the plate 19. The spring systems are enclosed in casings 37.
