Abstract
17,781. Withers, J. S., [Zandt, E. G. van]. July 26. Atmospheric gas burners. - A secondary burner for consuming the products of combustion from a primary burner of the kind described i n Specification 6763/08, comprises an inverted cupshaped shell 9 placed over the primary burner 7 and surrounded by a cylindrical shell 12 of larger diameter and of greater length, so that the combustion products from the burner 7 are heated in the inner shell 9, and, passing under the preferably serrated lower edge 21 of tha inner shell and between the inner and outer shells. mix with air and burn at the annular burner mouth formed by the upper edges of the shells 9, 12. The outer shell may be provided just above the edge 21 with an internal flange 22 having an inclined edge for deflecting the gaseous mixture along the surface of the heated inner shell. An inwardly or upwardly projecting flange 23 near the upper end of the outer shell may be employed to deflect the combustion gases inwards over the top of the inner shell. The shell 9 may be provided with upwardly-projecting lugs 10 for supporting vessels to be heated.
