Abstract

16,560. Rosier, C. Oct. 11, 1909, [Convention date]. Transferring designs.-In process for transferring pictures, designs, &c., particularly applicable to transferring designs on to celluloid, gelatine, glass, mica, transparent papers, &c., the sheet of celluloid or other surface to receive the transfer is coated with a solution of celluloid in acetone and alcohol, and the transfer is applied in a press heated to 70-80‹ C. The paper is then removed by soaking in a bath of potassium carbonate, arsenious acid, hydroquinone, and rain or boiled water. The design can be covered with a layer of transparent varnish or of colour formed with a basis of gumlac. If a design has to be applied to a sheet of gelatine the latter is treated in a tanning bath to render it insoluble before it is coated with the celluloid solution. In order to vary the effect, the material to which the design is to be transferred may be coloured, or portions of the material may be coated with celluloid solution of different colours.
