Abstract
497,849. Colour photography. FRANCOLOR. June 26, 1937, No. 17869. Convention date, June 27, 1936. [Class 98 (ii)] Positive kinematograph films in colours are produced by printing two series of colourrecord positive images in register on opposite sides of a film, hardening the developed film to render the gelatine insoluble, mordanting and bleaching it, applying to each side a coating consisting of a concentrated gelatine solution containing a dye, leaving this in contact with the film during part of its travel through the processing apparatus and subsequently removing it with hot water. In carrying out the process, the developed film 1 passes through a tanning bath 2 of sodium thiosulphate, chrome alum, sodium sulphite, and sodium carbonate, a mordanting bath 4 of potassium ferricyanide, sulphuric acid, and ammonium bichromate and a bath 6 of sodium bisulphite. Intermediate washing baths 3, 5, 7 are provided. The film then passes over rollers 8, 8<1> for applying the coloured gelatine to both sides and is then subjected to steam jets 10 to remove the colloid. A third colour-record image series may be added by varnishing both sides of the coloured film, e.g. with a celluloid varnish, re-sensitizing it, printing the third image series in register with the previous images and treating this as before.
