Abstract
14,858. Berry, R. B. June 20. Direct gas - pressure apparatus, non-automatic.-A device for drawing liquids from casks &c. by means of compressed gas, in which a single movement of a handle opens (1) the liquid passage, then (2) the gas passage, and lastly (3) the gas valve; the reverse movement of the handle reverses these steps. In Figs. 1, 4, and 5, the shell a containing the plug b is shown provided with two cavities d, d<1>, so that, on turning the plug b anticlockwise, the liquid-outlet e<1> is put into communication with the passage e through the bore R. The plug b has a passage o and radial outlet o<2> leading to a groove p, so that, on turning the plug b further, the space below the nut g is put into communication with the top of the barrel through the capillary tubes q, s. The nut g then comes into contact with the stem of the valve k, and on further rotation of the plug b the valve is depressed, thus allowing gas from the cylinder C to pass through the passages o, o<2>, p, q, and s, into the cask or barrel, and force the liquid through the pipes s, e, e'. On turning the handle in the opposite direction, the valve k is closed first, then the passage o<2>, and lastly the bore R.
