[Addition to 26,255/08.] Operating swinging doors.-In a modification of door closing and checking apparatus described in the parent Specification, in which the spring casing is adapted to swing about a fixed or a movable pivot according to the direction in which the door is opened, and is provided with constraining-means in connexion with the fixed pivot, means are provided to constrain the spring casing to continue to turn about the movable pivot throughout the closing movement after it has been opened about that pivot, so that the check is actuated with certainty. The movable pivot c<3>, Fig. 1, has a reduced portion c<2> adapted to coact with a plate t, Figs. 1 and 2, integral with, or attached to, the pintle plate f, and having a pair of jaws t<1>, t<2>, the opening of which is less than the diameter of the pivot c<3>, but greater than the width of the reduced portion c<2>. When the door is opened in the direction shown in Fig. 2, the part c<2> is in the position shown by dotted lines and cannot be disengaged from the plate t; but when the door is opened in the opposite direction, the part c<2> passes freely between the jaws and the casing turns about the fixed pivot f<1>.
