Abstract

Door-closing apparatus; door checks.-Relates to door-closers of the kind comprising a closing-lever which is pivotally linked to a plate, carried by the door lintel so as to turn about a fixed and a movable centre and to wind up a closing spring carried by the lever, in the same direction when the door is swung to either side of the normal position. According to the present invention, the door-closer is combined with a door check and is provided with means to constrain the lever to move about its fixed centre on its return swing, thus ensuring the operation of the check. A plate f secured to the door frame is connected by a link i to a crank j on the actuating-spindle b. One arm c<1> of the closing-lever c carrying the spring casing a is pivoted to a link e, which is also pivoted to the platef. The other arm c' of the lever c is pivoted to an adjustable link, which is pivoted to the door. The link e is provided with a lateral stop q and also with an abutment p adapted to co-operate with a stop c<4> on the lever. A segmental projection f<2 >carried by the plate f is adapted to co-operate with a projection c<5> formed on the upper surface. The position of the crank j on the spindle b may be adjusted by means of a screw or pin l, which engages one of the teeth in a ratchet-wheel d. The stop q remains in contact with the plate f when the lever turns about the movable centre c<3> and the door is opened towards the apparatus. When opening in the opposite direction, or away from the apparatus, the closing-lever and the lever e turn about the fixed centre f<1> and the abutment p and the projection c<5> remain in contact with the stop c<4> and the segmental projection f respectively. The projection f<2> prevents the projection c<5> from escaping during the return swing or closing of the door, and ensures that the check comes into action. The spindle b is connected to a checking-piston s by means of a crank d'.
