Abstract
11,611. Schneider, E. May 10. Projectiles ; projectile fuses.-Relates to incendiary projectiles especially for use against balloons. According to the invention, the incendiary charge is arranged in an annular chamber c around a tube d, which contains a charge i for expelling a piston f and a base plug e and for igniting the incendiary c o mposition. The time fuse b may have an ordinary time ring or may merely have a compressed powder block m for delaying the flash. The flash passes to the charge i, through a non-return device such a s a chamber t containing a ball j which closes the passage k as soon as the charge i is ignited. Slots r and an igniting-washer s transmit the flash from the charge i to the incendiary composition c before the piston f is completely expelled. The base plug e is normally retained by a disk g of fusible material destroyed by the discharge from the gun, or of thin weak metal easily overcome by the explosion of the charge i. The disk g is held in place by a screwed ring h.
