Abstract
1431. Casanovas, B. F. de, and Rubio y Roger, R. Jan. 28, 1914, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Projectiles ; projectile fuses.-Relates to case shot for sporting guns and fowling-pieces, and consists in breaking up the case and scattering the shot during flight by a small explosive charge fired by a time-fuse ignited by the gun gases or by the set-back of an inertia pellet within the case shot at the moment of discharge. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the explosive charge c is separated by a disk d from the shot charge e, which is held in the casing a by a lid b, and the explosive charge is fired by a time-fuse g ignited by a percussion cap on a pellet i, which is normally held where shown by a wire or spring, but sets back on discharge and strikes the edge of the plug holding the fuse g. In a modification, the fuse g is ignited by the gun gases admitted to it directly, as shown in Fig. 1, or through a small orifice m, Fig. 3, and an intermediate chamber f. A sabot h, Fig. 1, is fixed to the base of the shot.
