Safety - valves. - Relates to a safety-valve which is given an increased lift by means of an auxiliary valve which admits steam to a piston connected to the main valve. In the valve shown in Fig. 1, steam raises the main valve b and also a valve d which admits steam to a piston e. The piston e is loose upon the spindle f to prevent jamming, and when raised, contacts with a collar o on the spindle and increases the lift of the valve b. In the valve shown in Fig. 3, the piston e fits loosely in a chamber g, steam having access to both sides of the piston. When the steam lifts the auxiliary valve d, the pressure above the piston e is relieved. The piston then rises, and its spindle e<1> engages with the main valve b and increases its lift.
